Driven by Professionalism and Commitment

Bi-Logik Ltd. was set up on 28 May 2002 with 7 employees. Headcount has since increased to 13. The company designs rail telecommunications and interlocking equipment as a core business. Our qualified designers are licenced by the Chamber of Hungarian Engineers. Two of them are also entitled to act as technical experts.

Design Methods and Objectives

Our design business covers a broad range, as justified by the variety of equipment, from old mechanical block equipment to modern computer aided telecommunications and interlocking devices.
Accordingly, our design methodology is driven by the use of modern 21st century tools, the desire to meet customer expectations, and the requirements of EU standards.
It has taken us years of hard work and sacrifices to attain this level, and as a result, we have progressed to a stage where we apply a fully computerised system to plan new telecommunications and interlocking equipment.
We are proud that our electronic system supports interoperability and offers joint design options for the designers of related professional fields, such as tracks, OH lines, railway operations and architecture. Our routing plans fit the Uniform National Triangulation System.

Hegyeshalom Line, Budapest: ETCS L1

We use our proprietary computer aided design software to prepare the installation plans (block diagrams) of interlocking equipment, which in addition to plotting can associate data files (occupation sheets) automatically with drawn objects and maintain them during the design process.
Our design efforts continue to focus on keeping pace with cutting-edge technology, as well as on the rapid application of state-of-the-art solutions in design. That is why we have engaged in the business of developing and adapting interlocking equipment and delivering the related installation plans.
We expect similarly outstanding results from our participation in the development of the European Train Control System (ETCS).

Earlier Assignments, Professional Experience and Background

Based on the personal references of our designers, our earlier jobs include participation in the design and development of key telecommunication and interlocking projects conducted by MÁV, ZSR, GYSEV, and BKV. Besides these, we have frequently agreed to provide engineering management during installation.
Our professional experience and skills are determined heavily by the legacy of earlier jobs held by some of our staff members, as MÁV TBÉSZ Ltd. used to be one of the biggest telecommunications and signalling installations company.

HMI (Human Machine Interface)

Designing dozens of signalling devices for small and medium-sized stations and for track-side application enjoyed almost countrywide coverage in those days, when presumably one of the most important tasks were related to the introduction of high speed in transportation during the rehabilitation of the railway line between Budapest and Hegyeshalom. In addition to delivering plans for converting station based and track-side signalling equipment, we have also played an active part in the development of high speed train spacing and level crossing equipment, as well as in the configuration of new basic circuits, which we continue to look upon as a major challenge and task. With twenty years’ hindsight these circuits have a proven track record and determine the system of track-side signalling in conjunction with ETCS L1 equipment.
Since its inception 10 years ago, the company has performed planning jobs for the reconstruction of several stations and line sections, either in preparing for tendering or during implementation for a contractor.

Some of Our Key References

  • Preliminary and construction plans for Alcatel/Thales electronic interlocking installations along the Boba – national border line (12 stations) and participation in the engineering management of the construction
  • Cegléd Station – preliminary and construction plans for Siemens electronic interlocking installations. This was the first time a D-55 relay interlocking unit was connected to new electronic signalling equipment during installation in Hungary
  • Preparation of the ETCS L2 licencing and tendering plans for the Budapest–Székesfehérvár and Budapest–Pusztaszabolcs sections
  • Reconstruction of the electronic interlocking equipment of the Sopron–Szombathely railway and design of interlocking installations for the reconstruction of the Szombathely–Szentgotthárd line. As part of this assignment, we were commissioned by HTA to perform complex planning

Major ongoing jobs
Our company continues to attach high priority to participating in EU funded railway projects, such as:

  • Preparing the licencing and tendering plans of the telecommunications, interlocking, and ETCS L2 systems for the reconstruction of the Székesfehérvár–Boba railway line
  • Upgrading the Biatorbágy–Tata section, preparing the licencing plans of telecommunications and interlocking systems. Please note that we also act as the leader of the planning consortium, which is a big challenge for us that involves special organisational and coordination efforts
  • Designing the installation of electronic station interlocking and train spacing equipment, as well as ETCS L2 track-side components for Siemens. Here we have to mention that this assignment has brought about our involvement in a new important project, namely the development of centralised track-side electronic block equipment

Our successes are not limited to traditional railway transport as we have also been active in community transport in Budapest: we have been commissioned by Siemens to participate in the replacement of the interlocking equipment of Metro 2 and in the design of the driverless interlocking system of the new Metro 4.

Installing ETCS L1

... what we are proud of

First and foremost of Bi-Logik’s pioneering role in the introduction of ERTMS/ETCS in Hungary. Initially, we received an order from Alcatel Austria to partake in the design and installation of the ETCS L1 for the Budapest–Hegyeshalom railway line.
Convinced that the introduction of ETCS L2 was inevitable, we had gathered experiences abroad, which we then summarised and discussed with MÁV’s professionals in order to develop an ETCS design manual. That was used subsequently as the basis of the ETCS terms of reference manual.
We are also working on an operating concept related to ETCS L2 to capture traffic and transport situations potentially occuring at various frequencies in reality (cases of normal operation, as well as emergencies) – situations which future systems will have to be capable to manage.
Our company has always considered its fundamental duty to partake in rolling out the international results of the development of interlocking and signalling equipment in Hungary. In this, we rely upon the professionalism and commitment of our team of designers and associates, in cooperation with other market players and the authorities. It is against this background that we are entertaining high hopes about cooperating in future railway development projects in Hungary.•
